We returned from ten days in New York to blue skies, bright sun, cold nights, and the beginnings of harvest. It is the story of the elephant and the blind men: one touches the trunk, another a tusk, another the body, leg, tail. What is observed becomes the whole truth and nothing but. However, hail did not decimate the whole of the Côte D'Or, there is no blanket of mildew/oidium/grey, green, pink, or blue rot, and sorting tables are now a common household fixture. We will end up with a smallish (in quantity) crop with reasonable ripeness, and the one grape I have personally tasted (a Savigny) was really quite sweet, thick-skinned, and promising. Younger and
