Domaine D'ARDHUY

As a venerable lady in her sixties I admit to a penchant for manly dimples and strength of character. Carel Voorhuis has both and his appointment as manager of the 110 acre family domaine is guaranteed to reawaken this splendid property. Bill Nanson of the online 'Burgundy Report' includes Carel in a group of stellar young winemakers called the Dijon School and he writes "Among the interesting wines and vineyards are the Clos des Langres Monopole reputedly planted by the monks of Citeaux around the tenth century, also they have a really impressive roll-call of Cortons, five reds plus one Corton-Charlemagne (from three plots)..." We are impressed that only after two vintages, the atypical 2003 and 2004, by the delineation of the 30+ appellations is excellent. The many appellations speak through an outsider. Those who refute the notion of terroir should taste here. Becky Wasserman
