Clos SALOMON
Clos Salomon is a 1er Cru vineyard tracing its history back to 1300s when Hugues Salomon sold wines to the Pope in Avignon. I always wanted a Givry in our portfolio as the stories about the appellation were intriguing...the favourite wine of Henri IV, the unmistakable hint of raspberries in the bouquet. We were fortunate to meet Jacqueline du Gardin who ran the domaine alone from 1977 until 1990 when Fabrice Perrotto, in charge of the vineyards, came aboard. Ludovic du Gardin joined the domaine and the devotion of the triumvirate to their vineyards is palpable. This is a family favourite, a rich and grapey wine, full-bodied. Two white wines have joined the Givry, a Montagny Le Clou, and a Givry Blanc 1er Cru La Grande Berge. Both whites are beautiful, aromatic, texturally impeccable. Becky Wasserman
